"I
desire to make a difference for eternity by challenging others, through
my teaching, writing, and speaking, to seek God and develop a practical
faith, a deeper commitment, and a closer walk, thereby fulfilling their
God-given purpose in life.“ - Michele T. Huey
Michele's Bio:
Since 1997, Michele T. Huey has described her struggles
as a Christian wife, mother, and grandmother in her weekly newspaper
column, Minute Meditations. Using everyday experiences, she reaches
into the ordinary to find the extraordinary, taps into the simple to
draw out the profound, and sifts through the insignificant to mine nuggets
of truth that enrich her readers' lives. As an inspirational speaker,
she brings the same humor and poignancy to the stage, addressing spiritual
growth, family life, and relationships at mother-daughter banquets,
women's retreats and seminars, and community events.
Michele's books, Minute Meditations: Meeting God in Everyday Experiences
(2000), I Lift Up My Eyes (2002), and Wings of the Morning (2005) are
compilations of her columns. Her work has appeared in numerous national
publications, including Guideposts, Teachers in Focus, and The Upper
Room, as well as several anthologies.
In 2001 she launched a daily inspirational radio program, God, Me and
a Cup of Tea, which is now heard on four stations. In December 2004
she produced and released a CD of her meditations, God, Me & a Cup
of Tea: Favorite Meditations.
A member of St. David's Christian Writers Association Board of Directors,
she teaches Bible, English, and journalism/communications at Punxsutawney
Christian High School, as well as workshops on writing at writers' conferences,
and is a tutor for The Writing Academy.
Michele and her husband, Dean, have been married since 1973 and have
three adult children and four grandchildren. They make their home in
the countryside of western Pennsylvania in a house they built themselves.
Michele's Speaking Topics:
I speak on such topics as spiritual growth, family life,
and relationships; everyday life and finding inspiration and encouragement
through faith.
• Oh, Joy! - Based on Proverbs 17:22, "A
cheerful heart is good medicine," this speech encourages the audience
to cultivate joy, with the premise that God has created within each
of our hearts a room for joy, but we choose whether to leave it empty
or fill it up.
• From Bethel to Peniel - Based on Philippians
1:6,"He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion,"
this speech reminds audiences that, despite our faults, weaknesses,
and imperfections, God can still use us to make a difference for eternity,
but we have to let Him work in us. This speech contains my personal
testimony of how God brought me from Bethel ,when I first met God, to
my personal Peniel that changed me profoundly.
• Lessons from the Stones - Based on 1 Peter
2:5, "And now you have become living building-stones for God's
use in building his house," this speech uses the illustration of
building a stone wall to show that, like stones, which are all different,
we are selected and shaped by the Stonemason for a special purpose in
His building.
• God, Me, & a Cup of Tea - Based on Psalm
42, this 10-15 minute dramatic monologue uses my personal prayer time
to illustrate a parent struggling with faith while having to drink a
bitter cup of disappointment.
• Make Me an Instrument - Based on Ephesians
2:10, "For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in
Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long
ago," this speech draws on my high school band experience to illustrate
the point that God has created each of us for a unique purpose and has
gifted us to fulfill that purpose.
• Growing Season - Based on the parable of the
soils, this speech draws on my gardening days to illustrate the point
that our lives as Christians are God's gardens, producing a harvest
that does not spring up automatically, but through persistence, time,
effort, and hard work.
• It's About Time - Only mothers understand that
motherhood is a 24/7 job
that demands our all. Based on 1 Corinthians 13, this Mother's Day speech
uses examples of mothers from the Bible to hold up a mirror and encourage
mothers to persist through the difficult times through faith, hope,
and love.
• Travel Light, Travel Right - If you were asked
to come up with four points of advice to give your kids as they leave
the nest, what would you tell them? This speech, which could be given
as a Mother's or Father's Day or graduation speech, illustrates four
simple, yet profound points that will help make life's trip smoother.
• Rx for Spiritual Health - How would you define
'spiritual health'? Given at a (secular) women's health seminar, this
speech uses Scripture and real life stories to define spiritual health
and outline how to maintain it.
• What is a Volunteer? - This speech, given at
an appreciation banquet for volunteers, uses the word 'volunteer' as
an acrostic to encourage and applaud those who unselfishly give of their
time.
Meeting Planners Say:
• "That's me!"
My audiences identify with what I'm relating. This is a note from someone
who reads my weekly column and ordered my CD:
• "Your work is so wonderful! So easy to relate to, like
the parables in the Word. Wonderful lessons for everyday life and from
everyday life."
Michele Says:
I believe in injecting humor into my speeches because
it relieves tension, breaks down barriers, and holds up a mirror graciously.
Just like "a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down,"
so a good dose of appropriate humor helps the point you're making go
down more easily.
Gospel Presentation?
YES! I weave it into every speech. (I was trained to do so by Child
Evangelism Fellowship.)
Why Michele Speaks:
"Don't waste the pain," a pastor recently told our school
students in chapel. I use the life-pain I've experienced and what I
learned through those painful experiences to help others draw closer
to God. My passion is teaching, and I see speaking as a venue of teaching.
Speaking is a way to fulfill my God-given
ministry "to make a difference for eternity by challenging others
to seek God and develop a practical faith, a deeper commitment, and
a closer walk, thereby fulfilling their God-given purpose in life."(from
my mission statement)
Michele's Goal:
Draw them closer to God. To create
a desire to seek God and develop a practical faith, a deeper commitment,
and a closer walk, thereby fulfilling their God-given purpose in life
(from my mission statement.)
