Julie Morris, author of 11 books and founder of the Step Forward Christian
Weight-Loss Program, has been helping people to grow in their relationship
with Christ for over 25 years. In her books, seminars and retreats she
reveals practical ways to draw closer to Him and experience His transforming
power. In 1982, after a lifelong struggle with overeating and the health
problems that went with it, Julie began discovering how to rely on God's
power to help her lose her harmful extra pounds and keep them off. She
delighted in sharing what she learned, and became involved in a lay
counseling ministry, helping others to grow spiritually and make healthy
lifestyle changes. She founded the Step Forward Christian Weight-Loss
Program and wrote the Step Forward series--nine books that share biblical
principles that have changed so many lives, including her own. In 2003,
New Hope published the first book in Julie's God Help Me series, From
Worry to Worship. Last year they published the second book in this series,
From Worthless to Worthy.
In addition to being an author, newspaper columnist, lay counselor and
dynamic motivational speaker, Julie has worked as a secretary at the
Pentagon, Spanish teacher, coronary intensive care nurse and the supervisor
of a large hospital medical-surgical unit. She has taught the Bible
for 25 years. She is the mother of two adult children and has been married
for over 30 years to her college sweetheart.
Julie's Speaking Topics:
• Step Forward to the New, Thinner You!
(Adapted from my Step Forward series.) -
I reveal exciting biblical principles that are helping people across
the country to lose weight and make other healthy lifestyle changes.
Some of these things include practical ways we can rely on God's power
when we lack will power and how we can
deal with stress by casting our cares on the Lord, not the refrigerator.
• Step Forward with the Lord. (Adapted from my
Step Forward series.) - I demonstrate how working the Christian 12 Steps
leads to a more intimate walk with the Lord and helps us to let go of
hurts, habits and hungers that hinder our relationship with Him.
• From Worry to Worship. (Adapted from my book,
From Worry to Worship.) - I tell the story of how I became an ex-worrywart,
and share practical biblical principles that help us to stop worrying
and start living life to the fullest.
• From Worthless to Worthy. (Adapted from my
book, From Worthless to Worthy.) - I reveal how we can overcome feelings
of inferiority getting the gospel message from our head to our heart
by learning how to accept God's unconditional love for us the way we
are, and letting Him transform us into the people we have always wanted
to be.
• From Disorganized to Disciplined. - I share how we
can experience God's harvest of righteousness and peace by learning
innovative ways to become more disciplined with our time, thoughts,
words and actions.
• From Misery to Ministry. - I discuss how to
let God turn our misery to ministry by sharing specific things we can
do to surrender our hurts to Him and allow Him to use them for our good
and His glory.
Meeting Planners Say:
• "I could listen to you talk all day. Your
seminar inspired me to finally start doing something about my problems."
• "Thanks to Julie's teaching, I have grown spiritually in
ways I never thought possible. I now understand what God's love and
grace truly mean."
• "The principles Julie shares can change your life!"
• "Your material is so rich and wonderful. It's just incredible!"
• Sherry Melecki, Director of Adult and Small Group Ministries,
Saint Paul United Methodist Church, Lincoln, Nebraska - "I cannot
say enough concerning how positive and easy it was to work with Julie
as we planned the seminar. Julie was very organized and helped me be
very organized. Julie's presentation was wonderful. She had a lot of
information to share. She used humor, inspirational stories, handouts
and many other methods to make her points. She made a very positive
impact on the lives of a lot of people."
Julie Says:
When I transparently share some of the mistakes I've
made (for example, silly excuses for overeating) people at my conferences
identify with me, feel better about what they've done and laugh with
me.
Gospel Presentation? I always present the gospel by sharing how, as
a very skeptical agnostic, I came to the Lord. In addition, I emphasize
the full meaning of God's grace, which includes His unmerited favor
of us and His unlimited power in us. I work with event planners to determine
other ways that we will encourage attendees to dedicate or rededicate
their lives to the Lord during the conference.
Why Julie Speaks:
God has done such amazing things in my life, turning my weaknesses to
strengths, and my misery to ministry. Nothing gives me more pleasure
than to see this process reproduced in others when they hear my words
of encouragement and apply the biblical practical principles I teach.
Julie's
Goal:
I pray that the Holy Spirit will help each lady who hears my words to
understand how precious she is to God -- that she is unique, created
with a purpose and a plan. I pray that He will help her to surrender
her life to the Lord in a deeper way than she ever has and that she
will experience the Lord's unconditional love and forgiveness, through
Christ, like she never has before -- that deep within her spirit she
will find a new confidence and a new hope. I know, from experience,
that when this happens, an exciting transformation takes place: She
will finally be free to become the person she has always wanted to be.
